Christ in the ER
An 80 year old woman was brought into the emergency room in full cardiac arrest with CPR in progress. We continued the cardiac code for another 20 minutes but during this entire time, she had a flat line heart rhythm. At that point, I called the code and we stopped CPR. I pronounced her dead and everyone left the room. I was now alone with this lady.
It has always been my habit to pray for my patients when they pass away. I consider it my last act as a doctor, to help my patients go home. I grew up Catholic so my prayer was usually, “Our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name…” As I held her left hand to my chest with both of my hands, a new thought occurred to me.
What if I ask Christ to take this lady home to God? Will Christ come?
So I calmed my mind and I asked Christ to come and take this woman home to God for me. I asked that she be freed of the constraints of this materialistic world. In that instant, the entire room changed into different densities of white light. I could see the energy that was in everything. Air was a very light white, while the equipment was a very dense white light. All the forms were there, but I could see the energy in them for a while. Time seemed to stop, no sound was heard and I felt a deep sense of peace envelop me. Christ appeared as a beautiful red aura in the shape of a bead across the gurney from me on my left side.
My patient had a lovely white aura. She slowly sat up, and for a moment, I could clearly see her face as she turned to say thank you to me. Christ picked her up and they melded together opposite me. Then, they moved together into a different dimension and floated up to the right hand side of the room. There, I saw golden doors open and a bright light filled the room. I saw the arms of God embrace both of them and draw them into heaven. I felt tremendous peace, love and joy. As I looked around, everything in the room was still dancing in scintillating white light. I realized that I had just assisted in giving someone birth into Heaven. I was awestruck. This did not last long as another emergency was on its way in and required my immediate attention. But, I know this lady went home.
When I came home that night, I reflected on what had happened. I have prayed for people when they pass away for over 15 years. Never had I seen anything like this. It was then that I remembered from A Course in Miracles that death is not real but an illusion. Today I experienced this truth first hand for myself. I was honored to have had this experience at that time.
What I did not know is that this scenario was going to be repeated for the rest of my medical career. This new prayer is the one that I now use whenever someone is going to pass away or has already passed away. Whenever I ask Christ to take someone home, he always comes and guides the loved one home, if that is their wish. And I get to see this.
It is such a lovely vision to behold.
